Before opening, Ozempic should be stored at a temperature between 2°C – 8°C. Unused pens that are stored in the fridge are safe to use up until their expiry date Do not freeze it. Once you start using the pen you can either store it in the fridge or keep it outside the fridge for up to 6 weeks. If you decide to keep it outside the fridge, ensure that the temperature does not exceed 30 degrees C. Do not use this product if the expiry date printed on the original packaging has passed.
Like any new medication you take, your body will have to adjust to it and it is likely to cause some side effects. Some of the most common side effects are the following: Feeling sick (nausea) Diarrhoea Constipation Indigestion Inflamed stomach (gastritis) Reflux or heartburn Stomach pain and bloating of the stomach Burping Gallstones Tiredness Increase of pancreatic enzymes (such as lipase and amylase). These do tend to go away over time once your body has adjusted to it. Do ensure that you have read the patient information leaflet to be fully aware of the all the side effects.
If you’re taking Semaglutide for the first time, or you’re restarting after a few weeks off, you will start on the 0.25mg dose, and take this for 4 weeks (once injection a week). The 0.25 is also known as your ‘starting dose’. After your first month on treatment, you will increase your dose to 0.5mg and remain on this for 4 weeks. The 0.5mg is known as the ‘titration dose’. After this, as long as you do not have severe nausea or other side effects, you will progress to the 1.0mg. This is known as the maintenance dose and will remain on this for the duration of your treatment. Please note that the prescriber will make the final decision on whether the course of treatment and the dose you take is appropriate.
The active ingredient in Ozempic is Semaglutide, a medication which is similar to a naturally occurring hormone in your body which is called GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1). This is an appetite hormone, which that helps regulate hunger and helps our brain to recognise that we’re satisfied and don’t need any more food. By helping reduce your appetite and making you feel fuller, this may lead to you consuming fewer calories and therefore losing weight. When paired with a low-calorie diet and regular exercise, this treatment can help you to lose weight and keep it off.

Ozempic is the brand name for the molecule Semaglutide. Until the end of 2020, Ozempic weekly injection was the only form of Semaglutide available. Since then the manufacturers, Novo Nordisk, have also launched a daily Semaglutide tablet, called Rybelsus. Wegovy, which is the higher strength 2.4mg Semaglutide is expected to be launch soon which is licensed for weight loss.
If you forgot to use your injection on your usual day, you can just inject yourself as soon as you remember, as long as it’s within 5 days from your usual injection day. For example, if you usually inject yourself on Monday, then you can take your missed dose up until Friday.If more than 5 days have passed since you were supposed to use your injection, you should skip the missed dose and continue as normal when your next dose is due. For example, if you usually inject yourself on Monday and have not taken your injection until Friday, then you should take it the following Monday and not on Saturday or Sunday. Do not inject yourself twice to make up for a forgotten dose.
Yes. Ozempic is a prescription only medication and we will only dispense it for you with a valid prescription. In order to be prescribed Ozempic, you can click on ‘start consultation’ on the top of this page and answer the questions in that section. These questions have been designed by our healthcare team to understand your healthcare needs in order to specifically determine which treatment is suitable for your weight loss. Just like an in-person consultation with your GP, our prescribers will assess your answers to their questions and write a prescription for the treatment they think will be best for you. You’ll then be able to pay for your medication and we’ll send it out to you quickly and in discreet packaging. If our healthcare professions feel that your selected treatment is not the most suitable one for you, you will be contacted and offered an alternative treatment and advice.
Whereas the trials have shown this to be very effective in the majority of patients taking it, like any medication, it is not guaranteed to work for you. You may either not tolerate it (have severe side effects) or not respond to it and find that it does not work for you.
The clinical trial by the manufactures (STEP 1) showed that patients using Wegovy achieved an average weight loss of 14.9%. Of those:
almost 84% achieved weight loss of less equal to or greater than 5%
Over 66% achieved weight loss of equal to or great than 10%
almost 50% achieved weight loss of over 15%
Over 30% of patients lost more than 20% of their starting body weight.
Alongside taking wegovy, it is important to maintain a healthy diet and increase in physical activity.
Semaglutide is the chemical name and active ingredient which is contained in Wegovy. Wegovy is therefore one of the brand names of Semaglutide which is licensed for licensed for weight management. Ozempic and Rybelsus (medicines licensed for the treatment of type-2 diabetes) also contain Semaglutide.
Ozempic and Wegovy contain exactly the same active ingredient (Semaglutide). Ozempic is licensed for the treatment of type-2 diabetes whereas Wegovy is specifically licensed for weight management (including weight loss and weight maintenance). Both are once-weekly injections. Ozempic is available in 3 doses (0.25mg, 0.5mg and 1.0mg) whereas Wegovy is available in 5 doses (0.25mg, 0.5mg, 1.0mg, 1.7mg and 2.4mg).
Wegovy is a once-weekly injection whereas Saxenda is a once-daily injection, also licensed for weight loss. It works in a very similar way to Wegovy and is manufactured by the same company. The active ingredient of Saxenda is liraglutide (also a GLP-1 - a synthetic version of the naturally occurring hormone GLP-1) and the active ingredient of Wegovy is semaglutide.
Store in a refrigerator (2°C to 8°C). Ensure it is NOT kept near the cooling section (usually on the back of the bridge) to prevent it from freezing. You can keep and use the pen for 6 weeks outside the fridge (for example when you start using it) as long as the temperature stays below 30°C.

It is important to try to take your dose on the same day each week. However if you forget or miss it then follow the following guidance:
If you forgot to inject a dose and
For example, if your scheduled day is Saturday and you remember to take it on Tuesday then take it as soon as possible and continue as normal the following Saturday. If your scheduled day is Saturday and you remember to take it on Wednesday then skip that week and take it the following Saturday.
If you If you are currently taking Ozempic or have previously taken Ozempic for weight loss then follow the following guidance:
If you are currently taking Ozempic:
You can switch to the same strength of Wegovy or the next higher dose. For example, if you are currently on 1.0mg Ozempic then you can go up to 1.7mg Wegovy.
If you have been taking Ozempic previously and have had a short treatment gap of a couple of weeks:
You can continue on Wegovy from you left off at.
If you have been taking Ozempic 1.0mg previously and have had a longer treatment gap:
You should start on the 0.5mg. Re-starting from 0.5mg will reduce the chances of side effects such as nausea so it is the safer and appropriate option
If you have been taking Ozempic for the treatment of type-2 diabetes then you should continue on Ozempic and do not take Wegovy. Wegovy is not licensed for type-2 diabetes.
You should start on 0.25mg Wegovy.
